Caste and its origin in India;
Caste is a central symbol of India , suggesting an area which is socially and culturally different from other places , as well as expressing its essence . Nicholas B.Dirk argues that caste is in fact neither an unchanged survival of ancient India nor a single system that reflects some core culture .Rather than being an expression of Indian Tradition , caste is , he argues , is relatively modern phenomenon--the product of the encounter between India and British Colonial rule .
Nicholas B Dirk traces the career of caste through history and also examines the rise of caste politics through history and also examines the rise of caste politics in contemporary India , in particular caste based movements and their implications for Indian nationhood .

yes even i strongly believe that raising issues related to caste in the mind of people is nothing but a part of political game. According to me 90 % people are kinda followers who can be easily made to believe in certain things especially those related with caste and religion. and 10 percent people a kinda leaders they take advantage of this.
